The K-Wave nationwide starter boy band was formed by YG Entertainment and debuted in 2006 with members, Taeyang, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Daesung and Seungri.
Unfortunately, with the glitz and glam that the boys lived in throughout the years, they have also caused major troubles which led to serious consequences.
Since Seungri’s recent scandal took over the entire showbiz industry, many have addressed the whole boy band to be problematic, well maybe except for Taeyang…
With BIG BANG being one of the biggest names in K-Pop History with all of their accolades, each individual member has made a name for themselves by being involved in scandals of their own.
Let’s take a tour on all the issues that these boys have been involved in:
1. Taeyang
Marriage with Min Hyo Rin
The biggest ‘problem’ Taeyang ever caused was dropping the news of his wedding to actress, Min Hyo Rin, which we all know isn’t really scandalous at all.
The couple had been dating since 2013 but this news came without any notice and really shocked everybody.

On December 18, 2017, YG Entertainment confirmed that the two would be getting married in February, 2019 before Taeyang’s military enlistment in March the same year.
Taeyang shared a special letter for his fans on the same day personally confirming his marriage and asked his fans for their blessings.
The wedding went on without any hitch. The groom performed a song during his wedding and even showed off some of his hottest dance moves to his wife and fellow guests.
It’s safe to say that Taeyang is one of the most disciplined and the least controversial member of the group.

2. Daesung
Car Accident, 1 Man Dead
May 31, 2011 – Daesung was involved in a car accident on Yanghwa Bridge where he had stuck a motorcyclist known as Mr Hyun, who was lying on the ground due to a previous accident.
After hitting Mr Hyun and dragging him 22.8m on the roadside, Daesung then hit a taxi that was nearby. He couldn’t control his driving in time of the collision as he was driving at 80 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
YG Entertainment announced that Daesung would be on hiatus and reflect on himself and his actions during the investigation.
Daesung’s world came tumbling down during this period as some even addressed him as a murderer!
The National Forensic Service (NFS) determined that there was only two minutes and 12 seconds of time between Mr Hyun’s first accident and Daesung’s collision and it was unlikely that he died because of the collision with Daesung.
August 29,2011 – All charges against Daesung were dropped due to lack of evidence to prove that Mr Hyun was alive when Daesung had hit him. The vocalist remained on hiatus until November 6, 2011.
Later, he revealed that he had had suicidal thoughts during his hiatus in an episode of SBS’s Healing Camp on the 20 February, 2012.

3. T.O.P
Drug Usage and Overdose Scandals
The lead rapper of the group has anxiety issues and it is common for him to consume sedatives, but one can be too many and eventually leading to a drug scandal.
May 31, 2017 – T.O.P revealed that he smoked marijuana while he was serving in the military in October 2016.
Besides smoking marijuana in the military, T.O.P also smoked with the controversial trainee, Han Seo Hee on at least three different locations.
T.O.P apologised for the issue four days later with a note. Some of the lines are,
“I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone who’s been disappointed by my huge mistake.
“I am sorry that I cannot personally apologise to everyone face to face. I am extremely ashamed of myself. I am sorry.”
June 6, 2017 – Breaking news came in saying that T.O.P was rushed to the hospital following a drug overdose just three days after his confession.
June 8, 2017 – T.O.P finally regained consciousness and fully recovered.
June 29, 2017 – He attended his trial in person and admitted to all four counts of using marijuana.
Dating Scandal with Han Seo Hee
On the same day of the trial, it was revealed that T.O.P and his marijuana smoking partner Han Seo Hee were dating! But he ended the relationship with her and stopped the dirty habit.
However, on August 23, 2017, Han Seo Hee finally spoke up and accused T.O.P and YG Entertainment of putting the blame on her because she was a ‘nobody’ while T.O.P was a high-profile celebrity with ‘so much reputation to lose’.
A year later, Han Seo Hee made an indirect statement on her Instagram and people speculated that it was intended for T.O.P. Following the incident Han Seo Hee was sentenced to four years of probation.
T.O.P’s military service was put on hiatus while he was undergoing investigation and trial. His military service resumed on January 26, 2018 and expected to discharge on June 27, 2019.

4. G-Dragon
‘Dry Humps’ Dancer at All Ages Concert
In 2009, during G-Dragon’s first solo concert, ‘Shine A Light’, G-Dragon and one of his dancers, Aimee Lee, performed an intimate bed scene on a stand-up bed.
However, it looked like he was dry humping her in front of thousands of minors at the concert. The performance brought heated criticism from the public and insisted that he had gone too far.
When Aimee Lee was called out, she asserted that it was merely a short moment of straddling for the performance and it was ‘not a big deal’.
Aimee Lee was taken aback because nobody mentioned to them during rehearsals that the choreography was a little too much for the public.

Illegal Marijuana Usage
G-Dragon was indicted on charges of smoking marijuana. Investigators determined that G-Dragon had been smoking marijuana in Japan sometime in May.
June 15, 2011 – A urine drug test of G-Dragon came out negative. But a hair drug test resulted in signs of marijuana later in July, 2011.
G-Dragon eventually confessed that he did consume a smoke a weird cigarette at a club in Japan but he did not know for sure it was marijuana.
Charges against him were dropped for various reasons including the fact that it was his first criminal offence and that the amount of marijuana that was found in his system was very little.
He then paused all his promotions to reflect on his actions.
Military Service Scandals
The public realised that G-Dragon has been delaying his military enlistment from 2009 to 2016, and even until 2017, he still has yet to serve. He was also accused of receiving special treatment regarding his (then) upcoming military enlistment.
Reasons of delay:
- he was a student undergoing both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees
- 370 days due to his PhD application
- 90 days for celebrity promotions
Finally, he enlisted on the February 27, 2018.
In less than three months of his enlistment, G-Dragon was reported to be admitted at a university hospital in Seoul due to a nagging injury in his right ankle.
YG Entertainment said that he would return back to base once he recovered from the surgery. But after recovery, he kept on going back to the hospital.
It was speculated that he was receiving special treatment again from the military because of his status as a high-profile celebrity.
The speculations happened due to a report saying that G-Dragon was hospitalised in a large, luxury room – with air conditioning, a refrigerator and a television – for a comfortable stay that was not supposed to be accessible for a Private First Class rank like him.
G-Dragon was admitted into a one-person room upon a request to protect his private information. However, Dispatch investigated that he was actually in a luxury room at the hospital.
They wrote,
“YG says there was ‘no special treatment and no luxury suite’, but the truth is, the luxury suite exists. G-Dragon stayed at room 311 in complex 301. That is the luxury suite.”
The scandal also continued with G-Dragon being accused of not being promoted normally in the military due to missing too many days from service.
But a military official said that they could not reveal too much details because this deals with his personal information.

5. Seungri
Sex Scandals on Magazine
September 13, 2012 – Seungri’s first major scandal involved a magazine spread in Japan’s biggest gossip magazine, Friday, of him sleeping shirtless with a woman who claimed to have had a one night stand with him.
The woman exposed Seungri’s habits in bed saying that Seungri would ejaculate on her chest and throw her a towel instead of wiping the semen of off her, and how he does not kiss at all during sex.
Seungri opened up about the one-night stand scandal a year later, when he guested on SBS’s Incarnation.
“I came on this show because I felt like I should let the public know what happened during that [one-night stand] scandal.
“This was my first scandal, and it was so big. I was really scared and surprised. But in the end, I think a lot of people started looking at me more like an adult because of that scandal.
“Honestly, the magazine told me that they were going to print the pictures and story in the magazine a week before it was issued.
“But, since it was a physical copy printed in a factory and not on an internet article, I couldn’t stop it even though I knew about it.”
Public Display of Affection with Anna Kubo
In less than a week later after the one night stand scandal, Seungri was swept up in another scandal, involving Japanese actress Anna Kubo.
The two were seen hugging, and Anna Kubo also gave Seungri a kiss. YG Entertainment quickly denied any rumours of a relationship, stating there is no such scandal or anything even close to that happening.
The Burning Sun, and Sex Chatroom Scandal
November 24, 2018 – Seungri’s club in Gangnam, called the Burning Sun, was associated with reports of sexual harassment.
Details also continued to emerge highlighting the club’s history of prostitute solicitation, physical and sexual assault, rape, and use of date rape drugs.
Seungri at first denied all accusations related to him, but on March 9, 2019, he was officially a suspect of the case.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency booked him without detention for soliciting prostitution, and have now launched a full on investigation.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said,
“In an attempt to get to the bottom of the case and attempt to clear Seungri of the suspicions surrounding him, we have booked Seungri as a suspect for the allegations of him ‘soliciting prostitution’ in order to receive a search warrant for the club ARENA, which is accused of allowing prostitution inside its venue.”

February 2019 – Chat logs implicating Seungri in the solicitation of prostitutes were revealed, YG Entertainment initially denied the legitimacy of all the chat logs, claiming that they were all fabricated.
But later in the month, more and more chat logs were revealed, and Seungri was not the only one active in the group.
Other celebrities, Jung Joon Young, Choi Jonghoon, Yong JunHyung and Lee Jonghyun were also exposed to be involved with the scandal.
Illegal hidden camera videos were filmed and shared of the girls they had sex with, and the chat log was where the celebrities described their sex adventures or even the trading of girls!
After being exposed, both Seungri and Choi Jonghoon announced their retirement from the entertainment industry, while Jung Joon Yong admitted to all of the accusations against him.
As investigations are still not done, it seemed that the boys had someone of higher power to protect them. Police Superintendent Yoon was implicated as the higher up involved.
Not wanting to give in, Seungri denied everything.
“This all started with the contents of the chatroom, didn’t it? Just like how I spelt “police commissioner” incorrectly in the chats, we were just a bunch of fools bluffing and showing off with each other.
“The public perceived this as tax evasion and collusion with the police. At this point, even if I tell the truth, no one will believe me.”
And even until today, his scandals have no signs of ending. Many are disappointed with the recent scandal and it seems that he has broken the trust of some VIPs too.
It’s sad to see Seungri leaving the group after many years of performing and working together, but what he has done is really unacceptable.
These boys have really shown their ‘Bad Boy’ side, and it is definitely causing them severe consequences (except for Taeyang though).
Hopefully, the remaining boys don’t get into more trouble than what’s already happened.
