The wildfires that spread across North Australia has reportedly affected the majority of koala’s population, the fire danger has increased in the country’s east on Saturday, threatening the life of thousands Australia’s most beloved marsupial.
“So far, the wildfires have ravaged about 12.35 million acres of land, killing nine people and destroying more than 1,000 homes.“- CBS News
Approximately 30 percent habitat of koalas had been destroyed due to the raging wildfires.
In a heartbreaking footage, shared by Oakbank Balhannah CFS shows that a koala was rescued from the fire while desperately drinking water.
In another footage, a team of cyclists reportedly save a koala on the road to Adelaide, the koala was seen holding onto the cyclist in a desperate attempt to drink water.
Australia’s Federal Environment Minister, Sussan Ley, confirmed that an estimated 8,000 of the lovable little animals have died in New South Wales alone due to the fires.
It was reported that Adelaide and Kangaroo Island has suffered the worst of the wildfires.
