The 13th Genting World Lion Dance Championship 2018 will be happening on July 20th until 22nd at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands.
The upcoming event is a biyearly chance for lion dance troupes from all over the world to showcase their talents and skills against in each other.
There will be lots of leaping through air, balancing on stilts, and acrobatic moves to the pulsating beat of drums and clashing cymbals. It will truly be a thrilling weekend for people of all ages.
As participants from throughout the whole world such as Taiwan, Australia, France and the USA, there will be some special things which we might not have seen before in the art of lion dancing.
Leong Lik Thong, the 13th Genting World Lion Dance Championship consultant and co-organising chairman, said,
“The participating teams have trained very hard to ensure that their performances are the best of their skill and standard.
“The main objective of organising the championship is to upgrade the standard and skill of lion dance where participating teams can sharpen their skills by learning from one another.
“We can be assured a very challenging performance this year for the top prize.”
The Preliminary round will take place on the 20th and 21st while the finals will fall on the 22nd of July.
Kevin Tann, the Vice President of Promotions and Entertainment of Resorts World Genting told the press,
“At stake is not only a grand prize of US$15,000 (RM58,900) but also the recognition of being the best lion dance troupe in the world.
“For us in the audience, it promises to be an inspiring and rewarding experience to watch these amazing lion dance troupes in action. I can promise you that much.”
While the grand price is US$15,000, the first and second runner-up will be taking home US$8,000 (RM31,500) and US$5,000 (RM19,700) respectively.
Meanwhile, the other eight teams who made it to the finals will each receive US$1,500 (RM5,950).
