Fashion Industry Bids Farewell to the Late Legendary Karl Lagerfeld

The creative director of luxurious brands Chanel and Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld, passed away on February 19 in Paris at the age of 85. Lagerfeld was rushed to the hospital while suffering from pancreatic cancer.

According to sources close to the fashion house, he had been battling with a period of ill health and bravely fought through it without getting the word out.

The fashion icon has never in history missed out on any of his shows throughout his three-decade reign but apparently, he was a no show on two Chanel shows in Paris on January 22. Instead, he sent a representative, Virginie Viard, director of the creative studio of the house, on his behalf.

A statement was posted on the late designer’s official Instragram account to confirm his passing.

Karl Lagerfeld was stylishly know for his signature look: a black suit with his white hair pushed into a ponytail, finger-less gloves, and dark glasses. He always walked alongside his models on shows and gave a catwalk bow at the end.

Alain Wertheimer, CEO of Chanel said:

“Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which widely contributed to the House of Chanel’s success throughout the world.

“Today, not only have I lost a friend, but we have all lost an extraordinary creative mind to whom I gave carte blanche in the early 1980s to reinvent the brand.”

Tributes to the great legend have been flooding since his passing. The fashion industry mourns his absence and many have left heartbreaking messages for the late mogul.

Model Kendall Jenner updated a post of herself and the legend and said that she was so honoured to have been his friend.

Meanwhile, Alexa Chung reminisced her memories of being nervous when interviewing Karl Lagerfeld.

Making a name of her own in the fashion industry, Victoria Beckham praised the late designer for his kindness and generosity.

May Karl Lagerfeld rest his soul in peace, and condolences to his family and to the whole fashion industry.
