Cheap Singaporean BMW Driver Scams Caltex Worker into Paying for his Petrol

Owning luxurious items such as a wonderful BMW 5 series is usually just a symbol of our wealth, or at least what we want people to think about us. Being seen as rich is always something many people want regardless of whether we really have the money or not.

As for this Singaporean man, it seems like owning his vehicle has become a curse rather than praiseworthy.

According to Mothership, on April 14th, 2018, the BMW driver brought his car to the Tampines Avenue 8 Caltex station in Singapore to pump some fuel.

Apparently, he wanted only SG$10 (RM29.60) worth of fuel in his car but the elderly pump attendant made a mistake of refilling full tank instead which costs SG$135 (RM400).

Witnessing this whole ordeal, Kelly Yeo wrote to Caltex Singapore’s Facebook page requesting that the elderly man to not be held responsible for this.

A summary of what she wrote is as follows:

“Dear Caltex, I earlier witnessed an incident at Caltex Tampines Ave 8 @2pm on 14 April.

“While processing payment at the Cashier counter, the customer and driver of BMW vehicle SLTXXXXG claimed that your pump attendant had mistakenly refilled a full tank of petrol costing about $135 for his vehicle instead of the $10 petrol that he had instructed at Pump 7.”

“He refused to pay the full amount and insisted to pay only $10 for the full tank.”

“[The pump attendant] explained that he had heard that it was a full tank refill but the customer immediately rebutted it.

“The elderly pump attendant calmly informed the Cashier to let the customer pay $10 and he would personally absorb the rest of the cost.

“As a result, the customer walked away smugly paying a mere $10 payment for a full tank of petrol for his BMW Series 5 vehicle.”

To provide evidence, Kelly also uploaded a picture of the man as well as his car.

The post instantly went viral.

Singaporeans and anyone with a heart were infuriated at the BMW driver for being so harsh over the man’s mistake. Though many defended that the pump attendant was indeed at fault and did the right thing, a majority of the people were upset at how cheap the BMW driver was.

Some netizens wrote,

“Drive BMW [but] no money [to] pay petrol. Pui.”

“What an embarrassment to himself and his family.”

Meanwhile, the incident has also sparked a witch hunt for the driver. Upset netizens were able to uncover a scary amount of information regarding the BMW driver such as his summonses, road tax details, etc.

Some people even found out that the man in question is apparently a repeated offender using the same tactic as he used at the Caltex station. It seems like he has went around many petrol stations and got away with full tanks using this dirty trick!

Some others also shared that they spotted the BMW car around which was parked illegally and even had a summons ticket on his windshield.

The scariest part is how certain netizens actually found the driver’s full information such as his employment, his car details, and even his identification number!

The internet is such a scary place…

In fact, due to the severity of this case, Google Search’s suggestions even show both the car plate number as well as the man’s name. He has become branded now for what he’s done.

To try and calm this issue down a bit, Caltex Singapore released a statement explaining that the elderly pump attendant will not be held accountable.

Their professional post read,

“Good afternoon Singapore, we are heartened by the solidarity and care shown towards our team at Caltex Tampines. Thank you for the kindness and concern.

“We want to assure the community that our Caltex attendant did not bear any financial obligation from the events that occurred on April 14.

“Do be assured that our station manager, together with the management team are looking into this issue now and an investigation is ongoing.

“We do encourage everyone to refrain from any personal or group responses towards the driver or those involved as our team is already looking into resolving this.”

That being said, if it is true that this BMW is a repeated offender, with his face and car plastered all over the internet, he definitely has got nowhere to hide himself anymore.

Before anyone tries to do anything bad, remember that God and karma will punish the bad people accordingly.

The BMW driver may have saved a little bit of money here and there by scamming others, but now that the whole country knows who he is and what he did, he will never be able to live without shame hanging over him as long as people remember this case.
