May 9th Officially a Public Holiday in Conjunction with GE14!

After the 14th General Election’s date was announced earlier, many people were surprised to find it held on a Wednesday.

Previously, it was usually held on weekends but now that it is held in the middle of the week, people were freaking out about how they could possibly leave work to cast their vote, especially for those who are living in different states as their voting stations.

Now, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced that May 9th is officially a public holiday.

According to Berita Harian, the PMO is making use of the Holidays Act 1951 whereby the polling day will becoming an ad hoc national holiday.

The statement released by the PMO read,

“Pursuant to the Election Commission’s announcement that the 14th general election will be on May 9, 2018, the government has set the day to be an additional public holiday for the entire country.

“This is to let Malaysians fulfil their duties as voters.”

This move probably came into decision after the government sympathised with the citizens who are living far away from their designated polling stations.

Well, now that this little bump has been dealt with, there is no more excuse for us to not vote. Remember that every vote counts and we should do our part as Malaysians for the sake of our country.
