Ever since Frozen was released in 2013, almost every child around the world could not stop singing ‘let it go!’.
The movie has inspired many people, regardless of age and gender, to accept and be who we really are. Some people also interpreted Let It Go as a coming out message.
The lyrics which goes,
“Conceal don’t feel, don’t let them know. Well now they know.
“Let it go, let it go. Can’t hold it back anymore.”
In fact, Elsa’s character is the epitome of a ‘strong, independent woman who doesn’t need a man’. Which has brought many LGBTQ+ members to believe that she might actually be lesbian.
Fans started the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend as a campaign for getting Elsa a partner of the same gender in the second Frozen movie.
In an interview for a different movie, the Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee mentioned that there is a possibility of that happening.
“I love everything people are saying and people are thinking about with our film ― that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people.
“It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.
“Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things.
“For me, Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day.
“We’ll see where we go.”
Indeed, it seems like we have no choice but to wait for Frozen 2’s release in 2019 to find out if Elsa will have a boyfriend, girlfriend or even remain single.
For now, fans of Jennifer’s works can go watch A Wrinkle in Time which will be released on March 9th, 2018.
