It looks like there won’t be any angels strutting down the runway this year..
Much to our dismay, the most glamorous lingerie runway of all time, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is officially canceled.
The paternal company, L brands which owns the show confirmed the cancellation on Thursday last week, indicating that the runway event won’t take place this year.
Though the reasons weren’t quite clear but L brands did released a statement saying that :
“We must evolve and change to grow. With that in mind, we have decided to re-think the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Going forward we don’t believe network television is the right fit,”

The fantasy lingerie show was once a world phenomenon, making its first class runway show with only the elites supermodels gracing the runway like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevigne.
Fast forward to today’s world where feminism and diversity has evolved, the fashion show became the subject of heavy criticism among people. People are no longer interested to see supermodels with the same physical attributes ; body sizes, heights and looks conquering the stage and flaunting their toned body and long legs. Instead, they demand for more diversity whereby the brand failed to deliver.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s recent Rihanna x Fenty lingerie show was praised for its inclusivity and diverse model casting. Perhaps Victoria’s Secret can take some pointers from the show.
Victoria’s Secret show ratings dropped low in 2018, especially after former Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Razak spoken up about transgender and plus-sized models, intentionally saying that people weren’t “interested” in it.
The message is all clear, Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show is lacking diversity in today’s reality.
