Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2019 Suits Up for Ready to Wear Runway in August

The annual Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) is returning for its 7th and fully set to flaunt everyone in the storm of fashion featuring uprising talents and Malaysian treasures of Ready-to-Wear labels.

Happening from the 21st to the 25th of August 2019, KLFW will showcase more than 80 Malaysian designers to grace the fashionable hub of Kuala Lumpur — Centre Court of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur with their Ready-to-Wear collections.

Each year, KLFW welcomes over 150,000 people throughout the five-day event to witness the collection of our Malaysian designers. This year, KLFW continues to push every possible boundaries of all homegrown designers.

KLFW also sets to take the Malaysian fashion industry into a fashion forward journey. Thrilled to collaborate with KLFW are prestigious brands includes LEXUS, HP, HUAWEI NOVA, ORIS WATCHES, LAZADA, BOOST, PANASONIC, AIRASIA, SHISEIDO, MIKO GALERE, L’OREAL PROFESSIONAL, KOTEX, MAYBANK, and many more exciting brand partnerships.

In the spirit of craftsmanship, independence and quality, ORIS Watches brought four designers to narrate their fashion designing journey with a motivational campaign #GoYourOwnWay; A-Jane, a Fashion Composer whom formerly a musician, Ridduan Ismail (TTFGA), a fashion photographer and fashion curator for Rafeoff, Joshua Fitton, Creative Director of Atelier Fitton that appreciates contemporary and timeless aesthetics elements from his architectural background and Tengku Sharifah Khatreena, Princess of Perlis cum Creative Director of Khatreena, and a globe trekker. 

KLFW 2019 is set embark on a luxury adventure with LEXUS, the official car partner, along with Malaysian favourite designer, Alia Bastamam for #ExperienceAmazing campaign that strays away from mainstream and opts for designs that coincide with the Lexus’ design brand philosophy of “Anticipate. Innovate. Captivate.”

The collaboration will further enhanced with the presence of Malaysian celebrities, lifestyle media and fashion editors from Vietnam, Philippines, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and the United Kingdom as they are chauffeured to experience Lexus ES and Lexus NX Series on their fashionable journey in Kuala Lumpur.

In addition, Lexus is also celebrating creativity in all forms by encouraging and supporting doodle art comunity, namely Doodict in support for KLFW 2019.

KLFW Official Notebook Partner, HP is set to inspire life through innovations from three homegrown Malaysian designers, Afiq M, My Apparel Zoo and Yadotsa.

The designers will use HP Spectre x360 to showcase their creative journeys in a video presentation during KLFW to highlight how magic happens when fashion meets technology.

HP will also work with three fashion illustrators who will tote HP Spectre x360 at KLFW and sketch fashion week attendees, backstage happenings and this year’s trends on the runway.

“Keep Reinventing”, HP has collaborated with Rizman Ruzaini — Malaysia’s dynamic duo, Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Wan Jamil. The HPxRR collaboration, inspired by Spectre Folio transcends fashion and technology.

KLFW continues its partnership with the rising tech-giant that is sweeping society, Huawei. NOVA, one of Huawei’s strong pillars, is working with KLFW as the Official Smartphone partner on a collaborative merchandise designing campaign #WeAreNova that has gathered 500 entries from approximately 70 fashion enthusiasts from local academies such as UCSI Univerisdty, MIA, UiTM, Raffles KL, LimKokWing University and SML Fashion Academy, in which the top 10 design will present their creative works on the runway.

With KLFW partnership with Lazada, one of Southeast Asia’s biggest e-commerce platforms, will be debuting their unique creations on the catwalk via LazadaStyle’s Livestream.

10 selected designers — Maglifestyle, Wynka, Maqilla, Kree, Jimmy Lim, Laguna Sydney, Romyda KL, D.D Collective, Lana, and Syomirizwa Gupta, will release 10 looks from their upcoming collection to be featured on Lazada’s livestream during the KLFW showcase.

The premium Japanese beauty brand, Shiseido is the Official Make-Up sponsor for KLFW 2019. In support of KLFW, Shiseido’s Malaysian fashion week’s debut is set to follow suit in recognizing homegrown make-up artists to be part of KLFW 2019 to break new ground in inspiring Malaysian women for an outpouring of beauty looks.

KLFW is a hub of inspiration and motivation for our homegrown brands as Jimmy Lim is celebrating his 20th anniversary in the fashion industry and Malaysia’s renowned celebrity, Fazura is celebrating her brand — Fazbulous‘ 5th year with KLFW.

Not forgetting the power couple — Sean Sheila are also celebrating their 5th year with KLFW and Miko Galere, who now has more than 12, is celebrating their 25th anniversary with definitely one of the loyal supporters of KLFW for 7 years in a row as the Official Hair Salon. L’Oreal Professional is also launching MajiFashion this year, introducing various new and exciting colours.

KLFW 2019 is working with Kotex Malaysia as the Official Essentials in support of breaking down gender barriers and inspiring young women across Malaysia. The Kotex Batik collection will feature creative batik prints from Batik Boutique, a social enterprise empowering artisan through Malaysian batik in which a full batik collection will be showcased at the KLFW runway through the magical touch of Seza Zulkeple.

Boost Malaysia and KLFW collaborate for the second year and set to follow the modern trend of going cashless through e-wallet. KLFW with Boost cultivate the cashless lifestyle through a fun yet rewarding pop-up event — Fashion Lab. Attendees can catch up the pop-up stores at Fahreheit 88, Level 2, from 16th of August until 25th of August 2019, 10am to 10pm.

Fashion Lab will feature 35 local brands covering various categories such as menswear, womenswear, beauty care, furniture and even pre-loved items from big names like Neonate, LockaMY and Taguwaruwa. Shoppers also stand a chance to win attractive prizes in the event.

For the first time in its 101 year history, Panasonic is set to step into the world as they become KLFW 2019’s official hair & garment care, and KLFW is honored to be part of Panasonic’s fashionable journey. This year, the core of KLFW, the backstage and the hair and make-up room are all fully powered by Panasonic; convenient, cordless garment steamer, 2-in-1 hair curler & straightener and a smart hair dryer.

Thread of Heritage, a truly Malaysian textiles exhibition under KLFW initiative in lieu with our national month that is set to spread awareness on the local fabrics and unique textiles beauty. The exhibition gains the support form Maybank — Official Bank of KLFW.

Thread of Heritage will be held in Pavilion KL from August 14th until September 2nd, displaying Malaysia’s iconic textile fabrics from Tenun Pahang Diraja, Royal Terengganu Songket from Yayasan Tuanku Nur Zahirah, and Batik Kelantan coordinated by Kraftangan.

Three fashion schools involved in this projects are UCSI University, Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA), and SML Fashion Academy. Synonymous with the Malaysian Culture, KLFW hopes to provide a sense of identity and continuity in a fast-changing world and create a thread of heritage that connects the past and the present.

An initiative to support on the ascending zero-waste living, KLFW forms Design to Sustain, aligned with AirAsia, Commonwealth Fashion Council of UK and United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Design to Sustain brings 13 young designers from the past winners and finalists of AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search (AARRDS) to be a part of Rethink & Reconstruct.

To further uplift the initiative even greater, KLFW is paying homage to two conscious organizations through recognizing SURI, a Malaysian social enterprise that empowers single and underprivileged mother by handcrafting products using up-cycled denims; Kloth Cares, a movement to keep fabrics out of landfills.

Design to Sustain is also acknowledging fashion conscious by presenting Daphne Lim, the Grand Winner of AirAsian Runway Read Designer Search 2019, Bev C and Bijibiji x Tsyahmi; Ayu by Tarik and SeanSheila on ethical fashion during the show segment.

Launching Fashion Forward Batik Malaysia, KLFW gathers Malaysian batik textile makers and enthusiasts to celebrate Batik together as a whole. Dayang Mordiana and Nurscha along with 4 young designers, Ahmad Masyadi, David Han, Elie Wong and Lurazahs’ Raunna design modern and contemporary pieces to be showcased during KLFW 2019.

To kick off the 7th year of KLFW, 12 uprising homegrown designers — Techniq, Maqilla, Rafeoff, Sierra Chong, Mells, Duchess & Co, Bev C, Pestle & Mortar Clothing, Behati, TnTCo, and Wynka, Phyn Studio will be introducing their collection to the platform.

Hatta Dolmat and Syaiful Baharim will be marking their long-anticipated comeback with their signature and influential womenswear collections.

Top 10 Powerhouse Malaysian Designers will also be gracing the KLFW’s runway. One of the 10 designers — Alia Bastamam, Rizman Ruzaini, Fiziwoo, Syomirizwa Gupta, Afiq M, Innai Red, Nurita Harith, Ezzati Amira, Jovian Mandagie and MimpiKita will be closing KLFW with a bomb.
