Happy Meal Readers Programme to Instil Family Togetherness Through Reading

McDonald’s Malaysia has successfully launched its Happy Meal Programme at the McDonald’s branch in Mutiara Damansara on the 19th of February.

The programme is a noble initiative to inculcate a passion for reading among Malaysians from a young age through its Scale for Good approach.

The programme had already started in January whereby the families can choose between a toy or a book with every Happy Meal purchase.

The book series, ‘Treetop Twins Adventures’, consisting of 12 standalone stories is authored by Cressida Cowell, a world-renowned author and illustrator of the bestselling How to Train Your Dragon series.

Having great experience with children writing, Cressida Cowell’s works are chosen to fit the targeted ages for the programme (5-10 years old) with easy reading.

Parents can also read the book to their children and this will let the parents lead a good example in encouraging their children to read.

One book of the 12 stories will be released each month throughout the year. The books are also available in both English and Bahasa Malaysia to cater for the Malaysian market.

With the modern technology, reading is enjoyed digitally with the digital version of the books via the Happy Studio App. The app is available on both Apple Store and Google Play Store.

The story comes to life when the reading is done through the app and the kids are able to enjoy more functions of the app by scanning the QR code of the physical book bought with the Happy Meal set.

Marketing Director of McDonald’s Malaysia, Eugene Lee says:

“McDonald’s Malaysia wants to encourage families to spend more time together. The Happy Meal Readers programme encourages parents to enjoy quality time with their children through reading.

“We hope that this programme will instil a lifelong love of reading among children by making it a fun activity for the whole family.”

Lee is a strong believer of the saying ‘a family who reads together, stays together’, the bonding between families who read together is stronger and this programme is also in support of the government’s aspirations in making Malaysia a reading nation under the 10-year National Reading Decade Programme.

Ordering a Happy Meal set for the kids will never be the same anymore, and in fact is much more exciting because there’s a different story that awaits every month!

Good for the parents, aunties and uncles, and especially good for the kids.
