It’s been 22 years since the first original Jumanji film starring the much-loved, dearly-missed late Robin Williams had tugged at our hearts with his incredible dramatic performance in a story about a coming-to-life board games.
Alongside the subtle tribute paid to Alan Parrish, Williams’ character in the original 1995 film, this film has grossed RM48.29mil in Malaysia as of the 1st of January, claims Sony Malaysia, making it Malaysia’s 3rd highest grossing film of all time! WAIT, WHAT?!
So, here we have listed down 5 big reasons why this film is the 3rd highest grossing film of all time in Malaysia which has left Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson pretty stoked recently (more details below):
1. You learn about how dropping your ego can save lives
Without spilling too much of the spoiler, this film teaches you the greatest lesson of dropping your ego and arrogance ’cause damn those things can cost your lives as shown in the film.
Fridge or his game avatar, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar had to rely on Spencer or his game avatar, Dr. Smolder Bravestone who is originally Spencer, an insecure high school nerd who possess no weaknesses when being stuck in Jumanji.
“Mouse” Finbar also had to learn what it feels like to be in Spencer’s shoes being inferior in strength and physical built by also becoming Bravestone’s zoologist sidekick with almost every disaster-handy tools in his backpack, instilling some humility in him at the end of their Jumanji adventure.
2. You learn about believing in yourself and your potentials
Yes, movies are cliches and this one is no exception, I’m afraid. But, this life lesson comes at an important time where self-esteem among teenagers and adults in general is at an all time-low.
Martha, a super clever and aspiring Ivy League’s student and her fate to transform into Ruby Roundhouse, a “man-killer” in Jumanji and her journey to become at one with her avatar’s skills and confidence level is one that you will leave you blossoming inside. You go girl!
3. You only get one life, make the best out of it!
Life is a savage and we know it. But, that shouldn’t stop you from making the best out of every second of your life.
Using the game analogy of 3 bars representing 3 lives, each character displayed total fear of living when left with one bar until “Mouse” Finbar reminding them that in real life you only got ONE life, thus, make the best out of it. ‘Coz when it’s gone, it’s gone y’all!
4. Special effects and jungle scenery that are just LIT!
One of the things that us moviegoers look forward to when watching action movies is the superb special effects features of the film and this film is not one to disappoint.
With sublime special effects scenes that showcase the pristine universe that is Jumanji, we couldn’t decide whether our favourite is the one where Bethany or “Shelly” Oberon was swallowed by a giant hippo or when “Mouse” Finbar was chased by a herd of human eating rhinos. Ok, enough spoilers. We’ll shut our mouth now LOL!
5. Or maybe its the Jonas vibe?
Sorry but we gotta drop this one to do justice to help explain WHY this film is getting so much traction since its release LOL!
The appearance of Nick Jonas as a pilot, Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough midway into the movie is very much like a breeze sweeping through your face (excuse that metaphor) while you’re gasping for air just as the characters managed to escape getting mowed by a group of villain bikers. Ooops, okay this is definitely the last one!
And guess who couldn’t be more stoked about the recent news of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle being the 3rd highest grossing film of all time in Malaysia?
Keepin’ that gratitude train rollin’.. MALAYSIA ?? THANK YOU! #Jumanji is already the 3rd biggest movie of all time and who knows where we wind up. Our roots go way back years ago as I had some of my best (and grueling) wrestling matches right there in Kuala Lumpur. Unforgettable times. I’m forever grateful for your love over the years.
Yes, its Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! As part of the global gratitude series of Insta videos posted on his Instagram profile, The Rock made a special thank you tribute to Malaysia for being the 3rd biggest movie of all time in Malaysia.

Okay, if there is a single reason why you should head over to the nearest cinema and see the movie, it should be because of this sweetheart y’all. Nothing else!
