This is a note from us to makeup lovers.
Dear makeup lovers, enthusiasts and passionists,
Though we know that makeup for you is not only an extra step to your routine in pampering yourself for an occasion, instead we know that makeup is more likely to be a way of life. No, we don’t mean that your life depends on the pigment powders on the brushes’ tips; what we meant is for women (and men) out there who need makeup for their careers might want to read these few tips from us.
Makeup is a way to empower yourself, so you should never be ashamed of it! Don’t care what people say, makeup is a route for you to express yourself in an art form—which theoretically envisioned to build up your self-confidence and show the world what you are capable of!
With that in mind, it is however not really a good idea to be adorning yourself in bright pigments all the time. We aren’t speaking from a moral perspective about makeup being bad or good, instead it can actually be really bad for our skin.
Because there are things that you should never do when you are wearing makeup.
Cleaning spree with a full-on makeup isn’t really a good idea.
If you’re planning on embarking on a cleaning spree with a face of makeup on, you might need to re-consider that. Your skin is exposed to dust, dirt and pollution particle when you’re attacking the dust-bunnies, so it’s best to shied your skin as much as possible (wear mask if needed).
For your skin, makeup is a foreign matter, and just like any comedogenic irritants like dusts, it can lead to build-up in the skin layers—making the skin vulnerable to acne. Unless you have an industrial-strength primer on, you might want to cleanse the skin first before picking up that feather duster.
Makeup—especially face makeup, transfers on sheets and pillows very easily. Plus, when you’re cheek-to-cheek with your love one, the last thing you need to be worrying is about your foundation being scrubbed on your partner’s skin, lipstick smearing all over and you mascara making trails off your lashes.
Not only makeup makes your intimate session even messier, your respective facial bacteria and oils mingling with makeup and sweat sounds like the perfect gateway for an acne galore. Many of us are self-conscious when meeting your love ones but if the person is really into you, he or she will love you even bare-faced.
Hitting the gym is good, but not with makeup sis!
It doesn’t make sense to wear makeup while exercise because you’re like to sweat it off. Even though there are waterproof makeups out there that are designed specially to be worn on wet occasions, you do not want to make it a habit. This is because just like the previous, sweat plus makeup equals breakout!
Exercise makes your skin warm, hence softening the sebum and the layer of pigments on the skin, blending them together into your dilated pored. The results? Blackhead and pimples.
Go on a long flight.
You can wear loads of makeup on short flights. But for the longer ones involving the slightest hint of nap, you need to avoid makeup—the same reason as you shouldn’t sleep with makeup on. Additionally, it’s even better if you don’t wear any because the air in the airplane cabin is so dry, it sucks every last trace of moisture from your skin.
Instead, use the time to pamper the skin. Flex on your sheet masks, hydrating essences, mists and perhaps soak up with the Korean ‘7-layers toner’ on clean skin. (Note that if you put these good goods on top of makeup, it will even make things worse that it already is)
