Man in Trouble for Posting Mocking Photo of Najib

Penang Front Party (PFP) today lodged a police report against a netizen who insulted former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak by editing his photo and displaying it with a Chinese grave in the background, on Facebook recently.

PFP Youth representative Teoh Kean Liang said the action was immoral and a bad example shown by the netizen towards the country’s former leader.

A Chinese himself, Teoh said he could not accept what the netizen did as it could lead to racial tension and discord among the country’s diverse races.

“Irrespective of whether it is meant to be a joke, it is a serious and unacceptable thing to paint a negative image of the leader.

“We are taught moral lessons in schools, that we must respect one another,” he told newsmen when met outside the northeast district police headquarters here.

Teoh said netizens should not resort to cyber bullying as it can lead to tragedy and negative implications to their intended victims.

“We are against cyber bullying and we hope the culture can be stopped immediately.

“We urge the authorities to act against the culprits,” he added.

Last Friday, a netizen, who went by the name Liew Yi, in a Facebook posting, had uploaded an edited photo of Najib, with a Chinese grave as its background, along with hell notes.

The post was intended to mean that Najib was dead and buried.
