Surprise your kids or friends with these cute Emoji Fries

People always say “don’t play with your food”, but it’s okay to do so when it’s not yet cooked, right?

To make Emoji Fries, you won’t be playing, but simply unleashing your creativity, since it can be considered as art anyway.

How, you ask? The easy recipe below requires you to mash some potatoes and then shape them into any design that you like using easy-to-find tools.

It’s not complicated at all and can be completed in no time that it can be a little project involving your kids, or your friends, even!

It’s fun to see which emoji you can copy using the tools that you have. Plus, it’s yummy too!

So let’s try the recipe below.

Ingredients

  • 3 russet potatoes, peeled and cooked
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (30 grams)
  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • peanut or vegetable oil, for frying

Preparations

  1. Using a fork or potato masher, mash the cooked potatoes in a bow until they are light and fluffy.
  2. Add in the cornstarch, flour, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper into the bowl and stir well until the mixture is slightly crumbly.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll until it becomes ½-inch thick.
  4. Using a cookie cutter or a jar lid, cut out circles from the dough. Then using tools like spoons, butter knives, straws, toothpicks or even your fingers, shape the circles into any emoji or design.
  5. Then transfer the dough onto a baking sheet with a parchment on it, and keep in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  6. In a deep pot, heal the oil until it reaches 180°C. Fry the emojis for 1 to 2 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
  7. Drain on a paper towel and sprinkle with salt. Serve immediately.

Enjoy!
