Rosmah: “A Person is Innocent Until Proven Guilty”

Having been the wife of a powerful politician for many years and then the Prime Minister’s wife for the past 9 years, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor is now living a comfortable life as a normal person.

Says reported that Rosmah had an interview with the Malay Mail on May 19th, 2018 whereby she found this complete shift in position to be expected.

“It’s normal in politics. When you’re up, everybody adores us, but when you have problems, it is expected. It is just part and parcel of life.

“I don’t mind. It’s OK. Everybody has got their right about what they want to say.”

Ever since Prime Minister Tun Mahatir started probing into the 1MDB scandal and other fraud related issues regarding Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the couple has had multiple raids in their home located at Jalan Laggak Duta.

Last week, the police confiscated 284 boxes filled with designer handbags and 72 bags of cash from their RM30million Pavilion condominium.

Though it would scare people to have strangers barge into our house suddenly, Rosmah said she remained calm anyways. Her only concern and efforts are placed upon the safety of her family.

“We are taking it quite well. I think we’re quite relaxed, being a family of politicians. This is just one of those trials and tribulations, hazards of being in politics.”

She emphasised during the interview that her focus now was only to protect her family and herself. She also added that she’s not panicking at all because she believes in the phrase that a person is innocent until they are proven guilty.

She explained,

“We are taking it quite well. I think we’re quite relaxed, being a family of politicians. This is just one of those trials and tribulations, hazards of being in politics.”

“I can take all those pre-dawn raids, I understand. Otherwise, we have to be treated like normal human beings. The right to dignity.

“It’s another life, but I’m not complaining. I’m not asking for this kind of life, but it’s a much more relaxed life when I can do my thing. When I feel like sleeping, I can sleep; when I feel like waking up, I can wake up.”

However, as ‘chill’ as she is, she still hopes for the whole ordeal to end quickly.

“But I would like this to be over as soon as possible, because we want to move on with our lives.”

Regardless, the new government is probing into multiple issues and not just the 1MDB scandal. Obviously, a vast majority of these cases were once suspected to be related to the ex Prime Minister and his wife.

Even if Rosmah wants the raids to stop and to go on a ‘normal’ life, there is still a long, long way to go before the end.
